General Session Description:

Listed below is a general description of sessions that will be offered to participants. Sessions are typically on Monday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM unless otherwise noted. A detailed schedule for the upcoming class will be posted on the website by August 1 of the current year.

  1. Orientation and History – An introduction to the Leadership Hilliard program, your classmates and alumni; an overview of the history of the city of Hilliard.
     
  2. Team Building – A series of team-building/relationship building exercises led by Summit Vision. This activity will really help you to bond with your group members. Session usually takes place on a Saturday in early fall.
     
  3. Group Community Project – The project will have a positive and lasting impact on the community.
     
  4. Public Speaking – A session designed to emphasize components of public speaking.
     
  5. Effective Leadership
     
  6. Holiday Reception – Group members and alumni will gather for a reception to celebrate and enjoy the holiday season.
     
  7. Hilliard City School District – Hilliard City School District administrators and board members meet with the group to discuss the school district and answer questions.
     
  8. City & Township Government/City Services – Representatives from the City of Hilliard and Norwich Township governments meet with the group to learn how City government operates, the state of the City and answer questions. Representatives discuss the various services provided by the City and answer questions.
     
  9. Ethics – A presentation by the Ohio Ethics Commission on ethics in public service and their effect on the private sector. The session includes case studies and discussions. 
     
  10. City Council & School Board – Group participants attend at least one Hilliard City Council or Planning and Zoning meeting and a Hilliard City School District meeting.
     
  11. Graduation & Project Presentation – Graduation ceremony and dinner with the group making a presentation about their project.
     

Additional Requirements:

  • Attendance is requested at all sessions.
  • Some work is completed outside of the schedule
  • The group must attend one local government meeting and a school board meeting.
